Why Your Roofer Should Not Be The One
Touching Your Solar Panels

Most roofing contractors will offer to remove your solar panels as part of a roof replacement. Most of them should not. Improper removal and reinstallation is a leading cause of voided equipment warranties, damaged inverters, water intrusion at mount points, and performance loss that goes undetected for months because nobody is measuring.

Warranty Risk

Major solar manufacturers set conditions on who may service an installed system. Work performed outside those conditions can jeopardize panel and inverter coverage, and in some cases roofing coverage as well. We work as a qualified installer for the products we handle, and we document the process so your coverage stays intact.

Electrical Risk

A solar array is a live electrical system. Disconnecting and reconnecting panels, inverters, and battery storage is licensed electrical work, not roofing work. Improper reconnection causes arc faults, inverter damage, and in rare cases fire.

Performance Risk

A panel reinstalled at the wrong angle, with a loose connection, or on an inadequately sealed mount point will underperform, sometimes significantly. Most homeowners never notice, because the loss is gradual and invisible. We test every system against pre-removal production benchmarks after reinstallation.

When You Need Solar Panel Removal and Reinstallation

Panels come off for a reason, and the reason shapes the whole project. These are the four situations we handle most often in Los Angeles.

Home with rooftop solar panels that need removal before a roof replacement

Roof Replacement

Your roof has reached end of life and needs full replacement. Panels must be removed before roofing work begins and reinstalled once the new roof is complete. We coordinate directly with your roofing contractor, or handle the entire project in-house.

Roof in need of repair where solar panels must be temporarily removed

Roof Repair

Localized damage from a storm, leak, or structural issue requires panel removal from the affected area only. We remove what is needed, document every component, and reinstall to original specifications.

System Upgrade

Adding panels, replacing an inverter, or upgrading to battery storage sometimes requires partial or full removal. We assess what needs to come down and design the reinstallation around your upgraded system.

Damage Assessment

If your system has sustained damage from a storm, a fallen tree, or a PSPS event, full removal and inspection is often the only way to assess what is compromised. We document, select, and reinstall or replace as needed.

Our Removal and Reinstallation Process

Step 1

System Documentation

Before a single panel is touched, we document your full system: panel layout, inverter configuration, wiring, and pre-removal production data. This is the baseline we return your system to.

Step 2

Safe Disconnection

We shut the system down following manufacturer protocols. Disconnect all electrical connections, and remove panels in sequence. Every component is labeled, inventoried, and stored safely on-site or off-site depending on project scope.

Step 3

Roofing Work Coordination

If you are working with a separate roofing contractor, we coordinate directly with them on timing and access. If ALA Renovations is handling the roof replacement, the entire project runs under one team with no handoff risk.

Step 4

Reinstallation to Spec

Once roofing work is complete, we reinstall panels to original specifications, or to an updated layout if the system is being upgraded. Every mount point is sealed, every connection tested, every component confirmed operational.

Step 5

Performance Verification

We run the system and test against your pre-removal production benchmarks before we close the job. If performance is down, we find out why. You receive written documentation of the final test.

Why One Company Should Handle Both

No Coordination Risk

When your solar contractor and your roofing contractor are the same company, there is no finger-pointing if something goes wrong. One team, one contract, one accountability structure.

No Warranty Gaps

ALA Renovations works across solar, roofing, and electrical under a single license and a single project. We handle removal and reinstallation as a qualified installer for the products involved, which is what keeps manufacturer coverage intact.

No Performance Surprises

We test every system before and after. If your system does not return to pre-removal production levels, we do not close the job. That is the standard, not the exception.
